I offer workshops in journalistic writing to schools and colleges using 20 years experience spent working as a writer and editor for newspapers and magazines.

I am also a creative practitioner with Creative Partnerships. I am CRB cleared and have public liability insurance.

Workshops in journalistic writing are available to schools on request at a cost of £275.00 for a full day or £175.00 per half day. (Costs include workshop materials, travel and administration.)

During a typical half-day workshop I would normally give a brief talk about my career as a journalist, giving details about what the job entails, different routes into journalism and an opportunity for pupils to ask questions.
Next, using examples of my work I would look at different types of writing (news, features, columns etc) and analyse the processes involved in producing an article from beginning to end. This would include generating original ideas, interviewing techniques, headlines, sub-editing, layout, proof-reading and copy-editing.

A half-day workshop would normally comprise 2.5 hours with one class of no more than 30 pupils.

A full-day workshop has two options. Either a repetition of the half-day workshop for a new class or the opportunity for pupils to put the ideas from the morning workshop into practice with hands-on writing.
